Naturally, starting COD4 normally (or through Steam) works for SP and still has the original error for MP (or when I try to switch to multiplayer from the main menu of SP). I tried running it by just opening it from the folder, same problem. Now, I checked, and this shortcut does indeed point to the iw3mp.exe inside C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Call of Duty 4\UnderGround !nfinity\Call Of Duty 4 Modern Warfare 1.8 Patch Make sure Call of Duty is run from the correct folder." Clicking this leads to the loading screen and then an error saying "Error during initialization: Couldn't load fileSysCheck.cfg. The installer also made a Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare X desktop shortcut. Sure enough I now have a folder called Underground !nfinity in the COD4 folder, and a folder in there as well- in short, a folder with the following address: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Call of Duty 4\UnderGround !nfinity\Call Of Duty 4 Modern Warfare 1.8 Patch I told the 1.8 patch to install to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Call of Duty 4 I just downloaded Cod4X to fix the "iw3mp.exe has stopped working" error that prevented me from playing multiplayer from a Steam install I made a few days back (naturally the normal solutions didn't work).
